MARGINS TO CENTRE 2026
'Personal Identity throughout history'
Welcome to Margins to Centre 2026, an undergraduate-led conference, set to happen in March 2026.

About Us
The Margins to Centre conference is a student-run conference by undergraduate students in the University of York´s history department, that seeks to shed light on the voices and experiences of those who have been sidelined or rejected within dominant historical narratives. This year, our conference is on Identity, and is split into two parts: How marginalised communities express themselves and define their own identity, and how certain identities are imposed upon marginalised communities through external factors, such as social change and politics. This conference aims to bring together researchers, whether professors or postgraduates, from across Yorkshire, to discuss their research into this topic. The conference will consist of a series of panels and discussions, as well as inviting undergraduates to create posterboards,
Our theme
This years theme for the conference is 'Personal Identity throughout history'. Personal identity involves both how we choose to identify and what society has deemed us to be. Personal identity comes in many forms, ranging from gender, sexuality, race, disability and more.
